Elizabeth "Beth" Joan (Perham) McNally

Our mother, Beth McNally, died peacefully in the early morning hours of March 8, 2005, with her son Dan at her side. She was 94 years old, and had lived a long wonderful life.

Elizabeth Joan Perham was born Jan. 31, 1911, in Butte, the second of four daughters born to Arthur and Anna (Dee) Perham. She graduated from Butte High School and Montana State University in Missoula, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Beth was a champion swimmer and tennis player during her school years, and was a self-acknowledged sports fanatic all her life.

Beth married her one and only love, James McNally, on July 3, 1934, in Butte. They had been sweethearts for years, but her father wouldn't allow them to marry until she graduated from college. They moved to Mandan, N.D., where he was a salesman for Sacony Vacuum and Oil Co. (now Mobil Oil). Their three oldest children, Dee, Jim and Dan, were born there. In 1941, Jim was transferred to Billings and they bought the house on Elm Street, where Beth lived until the day she died. In 1942, their youngest child, David, was born.

Jim was called into the service of his country in 1943 and attended Naval Officers Training School in Tucson, Ariz. He was commissioned as a LT (JG) based on Okinawa during the last months of WWII. He lost his life there on June 22, 1945. Beth missed him every day of her life.

After his death, Beth spent 26 years as a social worker for the Yellowstone County Welfare Department. She retired as Assistant Supervisor in 1973. She enjoyed her retirement years with her family and friends. She drove for Meals on Wheels and devoted many volunteer hours to Ronald McDonald House. Beth was a member of Hilands Golf Club, where she golfed for many years and was an avid card player twice a week with her lifelong friends.

Beth was predeceased by her beloved husband; her youngest son, Dave; her parents; her three sisters; and many dear relatives and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Dee Nobles, Billings; her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Judy McNally, Billings; and her son Dan NcNally, Twin Peaks, Calif.; her daughter-in-law, Jean McNally, Billings; her adored grandchildren, Tracy Davis (Michael), Billings, Mitch Nobles, Orange County, Calif., Mark Nobles (Brenda), Evergreen, Colo., Teresa NcNally, Seattle, James A. McNally, Seattle, Catherine McNally, Bozeman, Dr. Jeff McNally (Cass), Salt Lake City, Pam Murphy (Dan), Billings, Susan Lisi (Paul), Walnut Creek, Calif., Anne Anderson (Craig), Austin, Texas, and Mike McNally, Billings; 21 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; cousins, Nancy Rupert (Keith), Billings, Bill Dee (Dawn), Anaconda, and Kelly Matasich (Chris) of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; her special dear friend, Katie Slovak, Riverton, Wyo.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Beth was very much loved by her family and friends and will forever live in our hearts.
