Robert L. Greifzu Sr., 73, of 77 Mount Airy Ave., Waynesboro, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, in his home. He was in failing health for the past year and critically ill for the past week. Born Sept. 22, 1917, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Frederick C. and Elizabeth R. (Lambdin) Greifzu. He lived his early life in Brooklyn. Mr. Greifzu graduated from the Washington Township High School with the Class of 1937. Following graduation, he attended the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. He served with the United States Air Force during World War II. He and his wife, Geraldine A. (Ridenour) Greifzu, were married April 4, 1942, and lived at the present residence, which he built, since 1948. Mr. Greifzu was employed at Landis Tool Co. as an assembler for 40 years. He retired in 1980.

He was a member of the Eagles Club Inc., William Max McLaughlin VFW Post No. 695 and the North Chapter No. 739, AARP, all of Waynesboro and the national AARP. Mr. Greizfu was an avid bowler and bowled with the Waynesboro Senior Citizens. He also was an avid golfer.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Sharon A. Kollman of Waynesboro; two sons, Robert L. Greifzu of Warton, NJ., and Leonard A. Greifzu of Waynesboro; 10 grandchildren; two great-­grandchildren; and three sisters, Eleanor P. Cunningham, Jean E. Yeager and Dorothy E. Greifzu, all of Waynesboro. He was preceded in death by one brother, Frederick Greifzu, who was lost at sea in 1944 during World War II.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Burns Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hemler officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Grove Funeral Home.
