She was the daughter of Elmer Peter Buren and Katherine Alice McCoy.

Doris Buren Howell was born April 27, 1909, in Los Angeles and died January 30, 2005, at the age of 95. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Howell. She is survived by two daughters; two sons; 13 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
Doris received her BE degree from UCLA in 1931. She taught elementary school for 38 years in Anaheim, Los Angeles, Fillmore and the Antelope Valley. Tom and Doris brought their family to Lancaster in 1949. Doris was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Parish and most recently Father Serra Parish.
A mass of the resurrection was held 10 a.m., Thursday, February 3, 2005, at Father Serra Parish. Interment followed at Lancaster District Cemetery.
