Montclair Avenue, S.W., and of Andrew
Miller, 11423 St. James Avenue, S.W.,
Killed Friday, (04 May 1945), in a
crash near March Field, California.

ONE OF EIGHT DEAD
Lieut. Miller was one of eight fliers
killed when a four-motored bomber crashed
on a routine combat training flight from
March Field. The plane was wrecked eight
miles from its base.

Miller was a graduate of West Technical
High School and was employed by the
Arthur G. McKee Co. He was commissioned
a Second Lieutenant and awarded his
Navigator's Wings in January at San
Antonio, Tex.

In addition to his parents, the flier
is survived by a sister, Mrs. Ella
Bodnar. He was engaged to Miss
Eleanor Reckfiedler, 5309 Bridge
Avenue, N.W., whom he intended to
Marry next month.

EIGHT DIE IN BOMBER CRASH
NEAR RIVERSIDE

All eight crew members died in the
flaming wreckage of a B-24 four-motored
bomber that crashed at 4 o'clock
yesterday afternoon in the hilly
brushland about a mile east of the
foot of the Elsinore Road grade.

The plane stationed at March Field,
was on a combat training flight when
it fell, eight miles northwest of
its base, according to field authorities.

Killed in the crash were the following:

First Lt. Robert H. Tieck, 27, pilot,
of Oroville, (California), whose wife,
Mrs. Stella Mae Tieck, has been residing
at 4455 Fifth Street, in this city.

Second Lt. Robert T. Martine, 25, co-pilot,
5280 Gertrude Street, Pittsburgh, PA; wife,
Mrs. Jane L. Martine.

Second Lt. Arthur A. Miller, 21, navigator,
2700 Montclair, Cleveland, O.; mother,
Mrs. Augusta Nash.

Second Lt. Charles L. Yost, 29, bombardier,
4766 Fischer, Detroit Michigan; whose wife,
Mrs. Evelyn C. Yost, has been residing at
3222 Pine Street in this city.

Covington Street, Baltimore, Md.; mother,
Mrs. Myrtle Apple.

The crash and resultant tower of smoke
and flame drew the attention of many
motorists and residents of nearby areas.

Fire fighting equipment from March Field,
headquarters of the state forestry service
at Perris, and Riverside city went to the
crash scene. Dry brush was set afire, the
flames sweeping over an estimated 65 acres
before they were brought under control.

Officers of the sheriff's department and
the California Highway Patrol assisted
military authorities in preventing the
gathering of a crowd.

A board of army officers has been named
to investigate the crash, March Field
authorities report.
