Ron was born on December 16, 1947, to Agnes and Milton Haaland in Sisseton, SD. He graduated from the Pierpont, SD high school and then attended seminary training in Texas. He was a pastor in Alice, ND and small Methodist churches in Texas. Ron also worked at Cummins and Versatile in Fargo. He owned and operated the Haaland Family Funeral Home in Linden, Texas. Ron was united in marriage to JoAnn Ahrens on October 7, 2006. The couple made their home in Moorhead.
Ron served with the US Army from April 19, 1967 to April 17, 1970 and proudly served as a medic in Vietnam. He shared a special bond with Doug Koenig as Vietnam veterans and a special bond with Gary Nelson.
Ron was a wonderful and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was known for his witty sense of humor. Everyone that met him, no matter how brief, were touched by his goodness and faithfulness.
He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Fargo and a life member of the VFW and DAV.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Russell; brother Elroy and a sister Amy.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife: JoAnn; daughter: Leslie Brown; sons: Eric and Lee; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers: Milt, Jim, Gary, Rich and Roger Haaland; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.
