Mrs. Earl Cook of Cedar Fort Dies; Funeral Today

Mrs. Martha Caroline Hacking, 86, native and lifelong resident of Cedar Fort, died Sunday at 9:30 p.m., in the American Fork Hospital, of causes incident to age. Mrs. Cook and her family have taken a prominent part in church and community affairs. Her son, Fon E. Cook, is a visiting teacher in the Alpine School District.

She was born March 18, 1888, in Cedar Fort, a daughter of John S. and Jane Clark Hacking. She was married to J. Earl Cook of Cedar Fort, May 27, 1901, in Provo. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Her husband died February 16, 1949.

Gifted in music, Mrs. Cook was ward choir director for over 35 years. She taught classes in Sunday School from the time of her girlhood, served as Primary president, was a counselor in the MIA and served as president of the Relief Society for many years. She was active in Red Cross service and other community assignments. She had formerly studied at the Brigham Young Academy (now BYU) in Provo.

She is survivied by sons and daughters--Ernil M. Cook, former bishop of Cedar Valley Ward, Fon E. Cook, Glen S. Cook, Mrs. Glen (Evelyn) Peterson, all of Cedar Fort; Mrs. Reed (Vera) Carson, wife of Bishop Carson, Fairfield, and Mrs. Ernest (Melba) Hindley, American Fork; 23 grandchildren, one brother, Orson E. Hacking, Tooele.

Funeral services will be held Thursday (today) [31 March 1966] at 2 p.m. in the Cedar Valley Ward chapel. Friends may call at the home of Mrs. Glen Peterson in Cedar Fort, from 12 noon until time of the services. Interment will take place in the Cedar Fort cemetery under the direction of the Wing Mortuary.
