Birth: May 10, 1842
Cortland County
New York, USA
Death: Nov. 3, 1858
Berrien County
Michigan, USA

Note: Mary Ann Bliss (aged 16), was
buried in the Kathryn Park Cemetery
(a.k.a. "The Old Burying Ground"
or "McCoy Cemetery"),
which was the very first "public"
cemetery, in McCoy's Creek (now known
as Buchanan, Berrien County Michigan).
The location of this cemetery,
is now the site of a children's
playground named Kathryn Park.
Note: Buchanan was formerly known
as "McCoy's Creek".
She is listed as the daughter
of "P. and F. F. Bliss".
Mary Ann was the youngest of
ten children born to
Peter Bliss Jr. (1794-1846),
and his wife Fanny F. Bardwell
of Leyden, Franklin County Mass.,
and then of Truxton,
Cortland County New York.
Note: All of the "headstones" from
"The Old Burying Ground",
were later moved to the newer
Oak Ridge Cemetery.
By 1895, when this cemetery was ordered
to be vacated, Mary's parents had
moved out of state, so Mary's remains
were probably not moved.
Note: There is no record of
Mary Ann's remains being moved
to the Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Peter and Fanny Bliss also had a
son named Joseph Merrill Bliss,
whose first wife Sarah S. Bliss
was also buried in the old
McCoy cemetery (now the site of
Kathryn Park), in Buchanan, MI.
Mary Ann was the youngest sister
of Joseph Merrill Bliss, who is
buried in the Oak Ridge Cemetery
with his second wife Harriet.
Mary Ann is listed in the 1855 census
of Cazenovia, Madison County New York,
living in the household of her older
brother Augustine (Peter Augustin) Bliss
and his wife Saphronia,
with Mary's mother Fanny,
and Mary's other brothers, Joseph
Merrill Bliss and Albertus Stebbins Bliss.
By 1858, this family was living in
Buchanan, Berrien County Michigan.
Note: Mary's brother Peter Augustin Bliss
had a son William Ward Bliss who was
born in Buchanan, MI on March 20, 1858.
Mary's brother Peter Augustin Bliss
died on Aug. 13, 1858
(possibly in Buchanan, Michigan???)
Could Peter have also been buried
in "The Old Burying Ground"?
Mary Ann Bliss died on Nov. 3, 1858,
in Buchanan, Michigan.
Mary Ann died in Buchanan, Berrien Co.
Michigan, at the age 16 and 1/2 years.
Joseph and his sister Mary Ann
Bliss had two brothers who
have also lived in Buchanan,
Berrien County Michigan:
1. Peter Augustin Bliss.
(Listed as "Augustine" Bliss in
1855 Madison Co. New York census).
Peter married "Miss" Crane.
They had no known children. He
then married Saphronia Ward.
2. Albertus Stebbins Bliss.
Albertus married Mary Ann Moon
in Buchanan, MI on Feb. 16, 1858.
In the 1860 census, Albertus Bliss
was living in Chikaming township,
Berrien County Michigan.
Joseph and his sister Mary Ann
Bliss also had two Aunts:
Polly (Bliss) Howe, and
Sarah/Sally (Bliss) French,
one Uncle (Hiram Bliss), and
one cousin (DeBert Bliss),
who are buried
just South of Buchanan,
in the Howe Cemetery in
Bertrand Twp. Berrien Co. MI.
