A metal worker by trade, he enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 19 June 1917 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

He used the alias 'Sapper George Davis ALLEN' when he enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force. From Halifax, Nova Scotia, he embarked for England with his regiment aboard the S. S. 'Missanabic', arriving on 23 August 1917 (training done at Purfleet in Essex); he served in France with the 5th CRT.


Son of Mary D. Whitman (formerly Davis) of Campbell, California, USA, and of the late John Franklin Davis; brother of Miss C. E. Davis of Esalinga, California, USA.


He is commemorated in perpetuity by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
