Bud passed away peacefully at home on December 7, 2013 after a recurrence of cancer. He was born August 5, 1941 in Lebam, Wash., to Merle
and Reva Church. He attended school in Menlo and in Port Angeles. Bud joined the Navy Reserves and served from 1958 to 1961. He returned home and married Judi Pratt on November 17, 1961. They welcomed two sons, Chris in 1962 and Mark in 1965. Bud had several careers over his lifetime, including crab fishing out of Westport and logging in both Washington and southeast Alaska. He was a participant and event organizer of logging shows throughout southeast Alaska from 1970 to 1976. He then went to work for ALPAC Insurance Co. after a logging injury and more recently worked as a longshoreman out of Aberdeen from 1979 until his retirement.

Bud loved horses and they had a small “ranch” up the Wynooche with horses and cattle for several years. Then he and Judi bought property in Brady and built their home, where they had many ongoing projects, including elaborate rock retaining walls they built themselves. Bud enjoyed many hours woodworking out in the shop with Judi as well. They also enjoyed traveling all over the United States by car through the years.

Bud was a great and caring Papa to his grandsons and was very proud of them and involved in their lives, attending their school activities and sporting events from preschool through college. He was well loved and will be missed.

His parents, his wife, Judi, his sisters Ona and Rita and brother Ron preceded him in death. His sons Mark and Chris, daughter-in-law Connie, and his two grandsons Taylor and Kellen survive bud.

At his request, there will be no service. Private burial at Fern Hill Cemetery in Menlo has already taken place. Memorials in his name may be made to PAWS, 800 W. First St., Aberdeen, WA 98520.
