James D. Mote, 78, Kokomo, passed away at 3:55 a.m. Monday,
Aug. 29, 2011, at his residence. Born Oct. 12, 1932, in Romance,
Ark., he was the son of the late B.C. Mote and Opal (Norman) Mote.
On July 7, 1953, in Struthers, Ohio, he married Evelyn E. (Voice). She
preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 2007.
He was employed with Continental Steel for 31 years, retiring in
1986. He was a retired preacher who was very active in church. He
was also a crossing guard for Elwood Haynes and Central Schools
for 22 years, which he thoroughly enjoyed, especially spending time
with the kids.
Survivors include one son, James W. Mote, Kokomo; two daughters,
Elaine (Mrs. Dane) Hight, Kokomo, and Linda (Mrs. Charlie) Rood,
Kokomo; three brothers, David Mote, Jerry (Shirley) Mote and Keith
Mote, all of Arkansas; three sisters, Marynell (Mrs. Elzie) Moffitt and
Diane Davis, both of Arkansas, and Altaruth Mote, Indianapolis; eight
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and four brothers.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Ellers Mortuary Main Street
Chapel, 725 S. Main St., Kokomo. Pastor Donnie Hughes will
officiate. Burial will follow in Galveston Cemetery. The family
will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
