Grover Cleveland "Key" Wolf, one-half Chickasaw Indian, was born approximately one mile south of Davis in the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, on March 8, 1886, the son of Silas Wolf and Sarah McCabe Scot. His mother died at birth, and his father died when he was 5.

After the death of his father, Key went to live with his father's cousin and close friend, Nelson Chigley. He was educated at several different schools including Davis Public Schools, and he graduated high school from Harley Institute in Tishomingo, Okla.

Mr. Wolf entered the University of Oklahoma in 1906 where he was very active in campus activities. He was the captain of the university's football team. There he met Euline Capshaw, the girl he would later marry.

After Miss Capshaw graduated from OU, she went to the University of Chicago for post-graduate studies. In November 1909, Mr. Wolf went to Chicago and he and Miss Capshaw were married.

In 1923, the Mr. Wolf and his family moved back to Davis where he farmed. In 1925 he returned to teaching in Purcell, while his wife Euline taught music in Davis High School. In 1926, Mr. Wolf became principal of Davis High School and later superintendent. He also coached football. The football team of 1930 was the first undefeated team Davis High School ever had. The School adopted the name of "Davis Wolves" for Mr. Key Wolf and has kept the name ever since.

The family left Davis in 1931, but returned in 1952 at his retirement from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Dept. of Education.
