Mrs. Carol Loraine Pittman, 83, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon (December 23, 2014) at her residence in Pebble Hill. She was a native of Kannapolis, NC, but she has lived most of her life in Waycross. Before becoming a CNA, she worked in the mills at an early age. Mrs. Pittman retired as a CNA for a private sitter service and attended Pebble Hill Baptist Church. She was also formerly active in the VFW. Mrs. Pittman just celebrated her 83rd birthday. She loved her family and was especially proud to attend Christmas services with her granddaughter, Nicky, who was home on leave from the U.S. Navy just two days before her death. She is the daughter of the late Jesse James and Ida Skidmore James Thrift. She is preceded in death by one brother, Harlan James. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Nelson Pittman of Waycross; two sons, Nelson Dean Pittman (wife Becky) of Waycross, and Tony Earl Riggs of North Carolina; two daughters, Susan Taylor of Concord, NC, and Sharon Riggs of Nebraska; five grandchildren, Zachary Dean Pittman, US Air Force, Nicky Rebecca Pittman, US Navy, Brad Taylor, Matt Taylor and Damon Hudgens; four great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley King of Waycross; special dog companion, "Dixie Bell"; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday (December 26, 2014) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends the hour prior to the service.
