Homer Allene Blanchard Benton
Homer Allene Blanchard Benton, 94, formerly of Sandy Cross Road, and more recently of Edenton Primetime Retirement Center, died Saturday, December 6, 2014. Mrs. Benton was born in Chowan County on December 20, 1919, and was the daughter of the late Willard Britton and Gertrude Berryman Blanchard. A homemaker, she was a faithful member of Hobbsville Baptist Church for as long as her health allowed her attendance. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar A. Benton; her sisters, Beulah Wiggins and Virginia Lee Nixon; and by her brothers, Thomas and Hunter Blanchard. Surviving are her daughter, Loretta Benton Jones (Jack) of Hobbsville; two grandsons, Walt Jones (Cherise) of Greensboro, and Steve Jones (Susie) of Baton Rouge, LA; two great-granddaughters, Claire Jones of Greensboro and Jordan Jones of Zachary, LA; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Hobbsville Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Dannelly. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family at Loretta and Jacks home, 341 Sandy Cross Road, Hobbsville. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Autism Society of North Carolina-Guilford Chapter, c/o Lisa Gutknetch, Chapter Facilitator, 4402 Shaw Farm Circle, Greensboro, NC 27406.
