Butte, Montana —James Edward "Jimmy" Flynn has been reunited with his parents in Heaven. Jim took his last breath on November 18, 2014 at his home at the Rosalie Manor.

Jimmy was born on November 28, 1955 in Great Falls, Montana, son of Dr. Edward and Sue Flynn.

He spent his early years at home being the center of attention of his older siblings Susan, Bill and Christine, followed by younger brother Steve and sister, Connie.

In 1962 Jim still wasn't talking and was unsuccessful in staying in kindergarten, and there was not an appropriate special education class in Great Falls. In 1964, Jim enrolled at the Boulder River School and also in special education classes in Great Falls and Butte, when those became available. Jimmy excelled in Math from an early age, and also all academic and vocational areas except speech. At age 12, a gifted teacher helped him break through the speech barrier and he began to talk! During the summer of 1973, Jim attended the Summer Residential Program in Speech at the University of Montana in Missoula. Jimmy loved to make jokes. In November 1973, he enrolled at Laradon Hall in Denver, Colorado, where he received janitorial and independent living skills training. He transitioned from living in a group home to eventually living and working independently, augmented by external support.

In 1995 health problems brought Jim to Butte Montana where his older sister Susan lived. He was blessed with deeply caring people who worked with him, and also with the programs and services they sought out for him.

In June 1997 Jimmy quit drinking and faithfully attended AA meetings for the rest of his life.

Jim loved to joke about his favorite football team, the Denver Broncos, and could discuss scores and games with incredible knowledge and recall. He volunteered to help others and did so in a very loving way. His first job in Butte was as janitor for Aware, Inc. He later started working at his favorite job - the Aware Recycling Center.

Jimmy served as Treasurer of the Kiwanis Club Action Group, an elected position.

He sat as a member on the Silver Bow Developmental Disability Board. He volunteered at the Alanon Club, and loved to visit with the people there.

By 2007, the early stages of COPD were starting to limit his ability to work, and in 2011 Jim retired from Aware Recycling for health reasons. In 2010 Jim received the "Vital Employee of the Year" award at the Aware Awards Banquet. He began to help with lunch preparation at the Aware Day Program, the bowling activity, and worked part time as a janitor at Mountain View Social Development Center, and cleaning the office for Silver Bow Developmental Disabilities.

His friend, Syndi Schmidt, was the brightest spot in his life. They chatted on the phone daily, and loved going out to eat together. When he could no longer ride his bicycle, Jimmy worked out at the YMCA weekly. Throughout his life, Jim loved to travel: to California to visit Steve, to Colorado to visit Connie, to Las Vegas to visit his niece, Meaghan, to Missoula to visit Susan, and to Helena to visit Bill. Jim will be genuinely missed by all for his wonderful qualities of humor, kindness, determination, amazing knowledge of numbers, and above all for his love of family and friends.

Jimmy is survived by his sister Susan Schott (husband Nort Petrovich); brothers, Bill Flynn and Steve (Linda) Flynn; sister, Connie (Gary) Grieshaber; nieces, Meaghan Goecke, Kelly Flynn, Raelene Schott, Tara Grieshaber, Shannon Flynn; nephews, Jesse Schott, Ryan Flynn, and Eric Grieshaber; former brother-in-law, Ray Schott; and friend, Syndi Schmidt.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 5, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Butte, followed by a luncheon at Rosalie Manor. Interment will be held at 11 a.m., Sat. Dec. 6, 2014 at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Great Falls. Memorials may be made to: Mountain View Social Development Center, 2100 Farragut, Butte, MT 59701. -
