Edward H. Duke, Sr., 62, of Wellsville, executive secretary of the of the [sic] Allegany County Alcoholic Beverage Control board of the New York State Liquor Authority, died Monday, Jan. 21, 1963, at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, after a long illness.

Mr. Duke was a native of New Market, England, son of William and Carrie Black Duke, but had spent most of is life in Wellsville.

He married April 11, 1923, the former Helen Newman, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Edward Duke, Jr., of Mason, Mich.; three daughters, Mrs. E. Briggs Gamblee, Troy, Ohio; Mrs. William Rostron, San Jose, Calif., and Miss Marian Duke, Wellsville; two sisters, Mrs. Mark Hyslip, Sr., and Mrs. Bayard Haskins, both of Wellsville; and two brothers, C. martin Duke of Glendale, Calif., and Harold Duke, Wellsville, and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Duke was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church; of the Elks lodge, Wellsville, and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The Rev. Thomas E. Murray, rector of St. John’s Church, will conduct the funeral service at 1:30 p. m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 1963, at the Embser Funeral Home, Wellsville. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
