Francis Aloysius Farhar, age 84, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014, at his home with his family.

Frank as he was known, leaves behind family and friends who have known and loved him over the last almost 60 years as a resident of Lancaster, including the last 48 years in the family home.

Frank is survived by his wife of 57 years Mary Patricia 'Pat' Farhar; sons, Michael Farhar and his wife Regina, John Farhar and his wife Kitty, and daughter, Monica Shanks and her husband Joe Scarlatella. Frank is also survived by sisters, Teresa Peters and Ginny Descher; eleven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Frank was preceded in death by his mother Anna Mary and father John Joseph, brothers Bernard, Sam, Joe, John and Gus Farhar; sisters Barbara Westfall, Mary Miller, Edwina Woods, Tilly Descher Dill, Rose Hawkins, and Agnes Luetkemeyer.

Frank worked as the Parts Manager at Endres Motors for many years before moving over to Sierra Toyota before he retired. Frank was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge and the
Knights of Columbus, supporting those organizations and their community service projects. Prior to coming to Lancaster he served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War when he was stationed at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska.

Frank was raised in Okeene, Oklahoma where he was second youngest of 14 children. His father was a blacksmith who emigrated to the U.S. with his young family from Semenofka, a small German Catholic village in Russia.

Frank was born in the family home on August 7, 1929. St. Anthony's Catholic Church was only a block away where the family attended services and Frank served as an altar boy.

Frank's most treasured moments were with his family in their comfortable home where they welcomed so many friends and extended family over the years. He and Pat enjoyed years of camping around and vacationing in their motor home, usually managing to visit friends and family along the way. His easy-going nature served him well & his philosophy of 'all things in moderation' was a life lesson for many. He always took the time to enjoy each day for all the many simple things it offered which became another important life lesson for those that knew him. Our lives will never be the same without him and will be forever enriched by having shared the privilege of his company.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated for Frank at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on June 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Interment to follow at the Good Shepherd Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Halley Olsen Murphy Funerals and Cremations, Lancaster. www.homlancaster.com
