Man's Suicide Laid To Rare Disease

Apparently unable longer to suffer the ravages of the strange disease which afflicted him seven months ago, Richard Slater, 42, sent a revolver bullet into his hear yesterday in his Malvern, Pa., bedroom.

"I am sorry I had to do It, " scribbled on a piece of paper, was the only explanation he left his wife Edna, who heard the shot while she prepared breakfast in their apartment on the premises of the Eastern Protective Association. Slater was cartaker.

Brucellosis, known as "Malta Disease," is termed by physicians "the possible successor to the now-stamped out typhoid fever." it is believed to originated in cattle and to be transmitted by milk. First discovered in the Mediterranean, the disease appeared first in this country in 1925. Still rare, it is feared becasue so little is known about it.

Slater is survived by a son Richard, 13, in additon to his wife.
