She was born Aug. 17, 1926 in Hondo, Texas, the daughter of Henry and Minnie Oefinger Schweers. She married Eugene C. Byers on June 23, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas. He preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a son in infancy.
She is survived by two sons, Eugene H. (Marilyn) Byers and Gary W. (companion, Delinda Garde) Byers; a daughter, Sharon (Mark) Metz; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Faydell Wiemers and Luren (Emil) Gavlick and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann served as the financial secretary and bookkeeper for Centenary United Methodist Church in Jacksonville for more than 50 years. In addition, she assisted her husband with bookkeeping at the Byers Brothers International truck dealership in Jacksonville. She was a devoted member of Centenary United Methodist Church and the church’s Ruth Circle for many years.
