Motor racing driver. Guillaume Laurent 'Guy' Moll had a rare talent, a sensationally fast Grand Prix driver and an Algerian. Born in Algiers, the son of a Spanish mother and French father, a wealthy family, he began racing a Lorraine-Dietrich in local events and was spotted by a more experienced driver Marcel Lehoux who was so impressed, he invited him to drive his Bugatti in the Marseilles GP at Miramas where he finished 3rd behind Sommer and Nuvolari. He was a fast learner and more good placings came along. In 1934 he won a place in the Scuderia Ferrari and raced an Alfa Romeo P3, winning the Monaco GP and German GP at Avus, 3rd in the French GP, 2nd in the Targa Florio, and 2nd in the Coppa Ciano beating Nuvolari.Ferrari believed him to be as great as Moss and Nuvolari. Sadly during the Coppa Acerbo at Pescara, Italy, when overtaking another driver at high speed, his Alfa swerved off the road crashing into trees. Moll had achieved greatness in only one season at the top, had died in the crash.
