John Reginald Willis

John Reginald Willis, 89, of Manassas, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2014.
John, who was known as "Reggie" during his youth, was born in Bagdad, Florida on September 18, 1925 to John Ollie Willis and Edna Mae Collinsworth Willis.

John served his country in the US Army in World War II in Europe as a member of the Signal Corps. He graduated from Troy College in Troy, Alabama in 1949 and began his career as a public school teacher, working for the US Department of Defense on American military bases in Japan, Germany, and Greece. He received a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Florida State University in Tallahassee in 1963 and later pursued coursework toward a doctoral degree in education at the University of Maryland at College Park. He served as the principal of Tuckahoe Elementary School from 1970 until his retirement in 1987. He was an accomplished golfer, a sports fan, and a former movie projectionist who developed a lifelong love of film, especially westerns and classic films.

He is survived by daughters Suzanne (John Karr), Kathi, and Lisa Willis (Geoff Romine); brothers, Robert (Carole), Ben (Debra), and Ronnie Willis; sisters Sarah Price, Mildred Kiley, and Linda Smith; step-brother Bud McLean; and sister-in-law Carolyn Willis. He was preceded in death by his brother Rod Willis and by his beloved wife of nearly 57 years, Helen Peeler Willis. He was a cherished husband and father, and he will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends at the Baker-Post Funeral Home, Lee Chapel, 8521 Sudley Road Manassas, Virginia, 20109 on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. A prayer service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with interment to immediately follow at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.
