Area Deaths

Mary "Ponkey" Bohanon
Funeral services for Mary "Ponkey" Bohanon will be conducted Monday at 10:30 a.m., from the Martin Funeral Home of Sayre.

Mary "Ponkey" Daughtrey Bohanon was born February 19, 1901 at Bellville,(sic) Bell County, Texas to Bryant Ben and MAry (Stansey) Daughtery and died Friday at the age of 97 and was the last of her immediate family. She came to Oklahoma with her family when she was a young girl where where the family homesteaded east of Sayre and she attended school at Indian Creek near Carter. She was married to Coy Means Bohanon on February 4, 1924 at Wheeler, Texas and (sic) they lived all their married life. Coy preceded her in death on November 27, 1985 and she continued her life on the farm where she loved to garden and raise chickens.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Survivors include seven children, Mary Mckee of Greenfield, Indiana, Lola Marie Barnett and husband, Kenny of Elk City, Josephine Brodderick and husband, Robah of Jackson, Tennessee, Lois Nason and husband, George of Sentinel, Bob Bohanon and wife, Carol of Elk City and Kay Winn and husband, Ronald of Frederick; 28 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; four great great grandchilden.

Funeral services for Mary "Ponkey" Bohanon were held Monday, May 4th, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. in the Martin Funeral Chapel of Sayre.

Mary "Ponkey" Daughtrey Bohanon was born February 19, 1901 at Bellville, Bell County, Texas to Bryant Ben and Mary (Stansey) Daughtrey and passed away Friday May 1, 1998 at the age of 97 and was the last of her immediate family.

She came to Oklahoma with her family when she was a young girl where the family homesteaded east of Sayre and she attended school at Indian Creek near Carter.

She was married to Coy Means Bohanon on February 4, 1924 at Wheeler, TX and they made their home north of Sayre where they farmed and lived all of their married life.

Mr. Bohanon preceded her in death on November 27, 1985; her parents, three brothers, three sisters, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Survivors include seven children, Mary McKee of Greenfield, Indiana; Lola Marie and Kenny Barnett of Elk City, OK; Josephine and Layton Broddrick of Sayre; Phyllis and Robah Johnson of Jackson, Tennessee; Lois and George Nason of Sentinel; Bob and Carol Bohanon of Elk City; Kay and Ronald Winn of Frederick, OK; 28 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

Burial was in the Sayre Doxey Cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Service of Sayre.
