Coy Sanford Ashley was born March 1, 1925, to Oliver Sanford Ashley and Luanna (Ross) Ashley at Newport, Okla. He passed from this life Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, at his home in Lone Grove.
Coy attended school at Newport and Woodford. He married the former Nellave Yancey on May 28, 1951, at Gainesville, Texas. Coy worked for Carter County District Two for 10 years and as a rancher all of his life. He enjoyed trading and bargaining for livestock and merchandise. Coy also enjoyed to wolf hunt and raising cattle. He spent many years of his life as a foster parent and enjoyed his family and friends.
Coy was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Luanna Ashley; sister, Madeline Glazier; one infant brother; and daughter, Donna Humphrey.
He is survived by his wife, Nellave Ashley of the home; son, David “Sandy” Sanford Ashley Sr. and wife, Lisa of Newport; sister, Pauline Purcell of Newport; special in-laws, Lynnette and Terry Barnes; special cousins, Ike Kyle, Preston Ashley and Walli Ann Vandenburg; grandchildren, David Ashley and wife, Marsha, Sandra Rotella, Tom Howell, Amanda Holbrook and husband, Caleb, Ashley Eng and husband, Daniel, Justin Skiles, Callie Steinhilber and husband, Chris and Ryan McFarland; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Ashley, Madison Wilkerson, Braxton Wilkerson, Nevaeh Rotella, Payton Rotella, Kailani Ashley, Cody Holbrook, Nathan Skiles, KayLynn “KK” Skiles, Kason McFarland, Payton Steinhilber, Kody Steinhilber, Reese McFarland and Nora Eng; nephew, David Glazier and wife, Kay; and numerous other family and friends.
Pallbearers are Marshall Mitchell, Larry Mitchell, Orvell Pickens, Ike Kyle, Dowl Mitchell and David Glazier.
