Susan Jane Mitchell passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at the age of 94. Memorial service: A private family service has been held. Susan Jane Barber was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Bartlesville, Okla., the daughter of Joseph Humphrey Barber and Sarah Betts Barber. She married Max Allen Mitchell in Bartlesville in 1941, and they lived in Stillwater, Okla., until 1980, when they moved to Fort Worth. Susan earned her bachelor of fine arts, master of science and doctor of education degrees from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. She taught in public schools and at the university level. As the president and director of education for Midas Rex Institute, main office in Fort Worth, she developed a course of study for surgeons and operating room personnel in the use of power instrumentation for bone surgery that is still ongoing and has been attended by more than 26,000 enrollees. She is the author and co-author of several chapters in medical journals and medical texts. She was a longstanding patron of the performing arts in Fort Worth. She is dearly missed by her loved ones. Susan was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Max Allen Mitchell in 1991; and son, Allen Mitchell in 2011. Survivors: Son, Glen and wife, Carmel; daughter, Jane and husband, Jeff; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
