Willie Flay Roper, Jr., age 68, of Rutherfordton, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014.

Born June 14, 1946 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Willie Flay Roper, Sr. and Blanche Montieth Roper. He was a graduate of R-S Central High School, class of 1964 and worked for Stonecutter Mill for thirty-five years. Willie attended Spindale Fellowship Holiness Church and enjoyed collecting ball cards, was a Jimmy Johnson NASCAR fan and an avid Duke Blue Devil fan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by one brother, Leroy Roper. Survivors include his wife of forty-nine years, Ella Mae Smith Roper; two sons, Chuck Roper of Morganton and Chris Roper and wife, Barbie of Cornelius, NC; two sisters, Barbara Dunkle and husband, David of Shiloh and Linda Waters of Boiling Springs, NC; four granddaughters, Stefanie Hurley, Katelyn Roper, Kinsley Roper, Elizabeth Curtis and one grandson, Kaden Roper.

Funeral services were conducted at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Leon Brown and Reverend Bill Alley officiating. Interment followed in Eternal Hills Memorial Park.
