Born June 15, 1841 in Gwinnett County, GA, the son of William Maltbie and Philadelphia Winn Maltbie.

Enlisted in Co I, 16th GA Infantry. Company I was organized at Gwinnett County, GA and was also known as "Hutchins Guards." Elisha Maltbie died March 16, 1863 while serving in the Confederate States Army.

His name is not included on the postwar roster but carded records indicate that he served with the 16th Georgia.

According to "History of Gwinnett County, Georgia, 1818-1943" by James C. Flanigan, Vol I, 222, he died "near Richmond."

Appears on a Receipt Roll for Commutation of Rations at Atlanta, Ga
