Son of Max Wagner and Rose Shuklansky, Russian born Jews who both immigrated to the U.S.

Staff Sergeant Wagner served with the 590th
Bomb Squadron, 395th Bomb Group from the
Ephrata Army Air Base during World War II.

He was one of nine airmen killed when
B-17F Flying Fortress #42-29500 struck a
mountaintop, 16 miles east of Ellensburg,
Washington.

The crew killed were:

2nd Lt. Derek Bovingdon , pilot
2nd Lt. Eryle W Boettcher
2nd Lt. Andrew L Bowman
2nd Lt. Ennis D Hake
S/Sgt. Edward T Miller
S/Sgt. Max E Miller
S/Sgt. William Miller
Sgt. Ray W Stitzel
