Isaac Rutherford Grant was born 22 March 1868 in Jacksboro and died on 6 March 1940 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He married Viney Ballew on 17 November 1895 in Campbell County and lived in Knoxville. He also married a McGhee (no children).

He is with his parents Rufus M. Grant, Lucy Parker, and brother Alvis in the 1880 Campbell County census.

In the 1900 Campbell County, Tennessee census, sheet 13A, household #224, page 178A, 1st district, ED 29 lists Isaac Grant 30, wife, Louviney/Luimey 28 (August 1872 KY)

The 1910 Campbell County census, District 2, page 3, family #31 lists Isaac R. Grant 42, Vina 57, and Bessie Robbins 15.

I haven’t found a death certificate for him, but found this death certificate, #27881, for what appears to be Isaac Rutherford Grant. Familysearch.org shows a death for a Mr. (I) S.R. Grant who was born in Jacksboro, Tennessee on 22 March 1881 and died in Knoxville at 210 Morelia Avenue of “Cardio Nephritis” at the age of 58 years on 26 February 1940. He was a “Salesman” and his wife is listed as Lilly Grant (55 years old) She states that S.R. Grant’s parents were Rufus Grant and Lucy Parker and that Mynatt’s Funeral Home handled his burial at Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville.

I do not know who this is but feel sure it is Isaac Rutherford Grant. Rufus and Lucy would not have had a child born this late. Perhaps this is Isaac Rutherford Grant and the informant was way off with the birth date and age, etc. Also, the transcriber appears to have interpreted an “I” for an “S” as the “S” in “Salesman” looks nothing like the “S” interpreted as the first initial in Mr. Grant’s name.

From Tammy Rawls: “I believe the R stands for Richard not Rutherford as per 1890 Tax record in Campbell County. I have found Knoxville City directories on ancestry.com for the years 1932-1938 and Isaac and Lillie (Mc G) are listed. Isaac is listed as a salesman-27 February 2013
