Betty was born on February 3, 1933 in St. Charles, Virginia. The proud daughter of a coal miner, Claude (Elizabeth) Cheek.
She went home to be with our Lord on Monday, September 29, 2014 in St. Vincent Heart Center, Indianapolis.
Betty enjoyed her childhood in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia. She was a 1951 graduate of St. Charles High School, St. Charles, Virginia. In 1953 she and her brother came to Marion and on May 19, 1954 she married Marvin “Sonny” Yeakle. He preceded her in death on April 24, 2007. Betty worked for Hank’s Supermarket until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Hillside Wesleyan Church. Betty and Marvin spent their summers at Salamonie Reservoir and were campground hosts for several seasons. Her greatest joys were being with family and friends.
She is survived by 5 children- Garry (Kathy) Yeakle, Tuscon, Arizona; Debra (Randy) Lanning, Noblesville, Indiana; Dennie (Suzanne) Yeakle, Gaston, Indiana; Martha (Joseph) Turner, LaFontaine, Indiana; Lisa (Scott) Briner, Peru, Indiana;
step-son- Marvin (Nancy) Yeakle, Marion;
13 grandchildren;
many great-grandchildren
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, William Claude and Elizabeth Ellen (Thompson) Cheek;
brother- Sherman Cheek;
half brother- Everett Cheek;
2 sisters- Zella Plank and Mable Griffin
Funeral will be at 10:30am, Friday, October 3, 2014 in Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 South Washington Street, Marion, Indiana with Pastor Gary Bingham officiating.
Betty will be buried in Marion National Cemetery at Noon on Friday.
