Laura “Maxine” Sanders, 89, of Holton, KS passed away September 28, 2014 at Medicalodge Jackson County. She was born February 17, 1925 in Havensville, KS the daughter of Charles and Alpha Louise (Coates) Rawlings.

Maxine attended Banner and Avoca country schools. She worked for The Creamery in Holton and for Will and Clare Beightel for several years. She later worked as a cook for USD #336 in Holton for 29 years. Maxine was a member of the Mayetta United Methodist Church.

She married Morris George Whiteman; he preceded her in death on August 31, 1953. She married John William Sanders on May 16, 1959 in Holton.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warriors Project or American Cancer Society c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
