Mario Sacchelli was born in Italy, the son of Leone and Iote Sacchelli. Seeking a new life, he left his family for America just prior to World War II.
While living in California, Mario was employed at a resort, where he met Esther Margaret Balla (1915-1998); they were married on the 16 April 1941. Although his wife always wanted to be a mother, she was not able to and they never adopted.
During World War II, Mario served in the Army as a TEC4. After his discharge, he became a bartender and then ran a bartending school. When he retired, he and Esther bought some land in Temecula, California, where they lived for many years. They eventually sold their land and moved into a retirement home in Santa Ana, California. While living there, Esther had a stroke, and passed away on 15 December 1998, after suffering another stroke.
Soon after Esther's death, Mario sold much of what they had and returned to Italy to live with his siblings that had become quite successful after the war. Being no longer able to cope with the weather there, and because of his health, Mario returned to California, living in at the V.A. home in Barstow.
Mario passed away on the 21 January 2006 from respiratory failure resulting from COPD exacerbation and congestive heart failure at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center. He was buried with his late wife, Esther, at Riverside National Cemetery.
