William was the son of Thomas and Mary Mount. He was born about 11 June 1743 based on his age at death (74 years, 8 months & 3 days), probably in Monmouth or Middlesex Co., NJ. At the time of his license to marry Rebecca Cox, dated 20 Nov. 1775, he was a resident of Monmouth County. He lived in Upper Freehold Twp., Monmouth Co., at the time of making his will, and this is presumed to be his place of death.
He served as a private during the Revolutionary War according the Brent Mount's genealogy of the Mount family. No details of his service are verified at this time.
