BRADLEY, Lemuel F.
age 90, went home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2006, in Lancaster, California. He was born May 24, 1915, in Gloversville, New York to Harry and Gladys Cole. When his father was killed in France in World War I, he went to live with and was later adopted by his grandparents Lemuel and Mary Jane Bradley. He graduated from Gloversville High School in 1933, and married the love of his life Marion May Schermerhorn on August 8, 1936. Their daughter Joan Marylyn Bradley was born on November 6, 1937. Lem (affectionately known as Papa by his family and close friends) went to work for Finkle Distributors in 1942. In 1943, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, traversing thousands of miles throughout France and Germany. Upon his return to Gloversville, Lem returned to Finkle's and later joined the Gloversville Fire Department in 1947. Lem was a proud and skilled fireman, serving thirty years in the department and retiring as Captain in 1977. He was appointed Battal-
ion Chief, but opted for retirement instead to enjoy more time with his family. He continued in his position at Finkle Distributors, until 1986, when he and Marion decided to follow their daughter and her family to sunny Southern California. Over the course of his nearly twenty years in California, he has made and shared a lifetime of memories with his daughter, grandchildren, great- grandchildren and even a great- great-grandchild. Papa was a great and wonderful man to his family and friends and will be dearly missed by his wife of 69 years Marion Bradley, his daughter Joan Carlton and son-in-law William Carlton Sr.; grandchildren Jenni (Carlton) Moran and her husband Jim, Lori (Carlton) Mowry and her husband Cliff, William Carlton Jr., and his wife Donna, and Christy (Carlton) Stephens and Annie Schroeder; great-grandchildren Lauren (Greenman) Karnstedt and her husband Charles, Leanna Greenman, Bradley Carlton, Ashley Moran, and Maegen Mowry; and great-great- grandchild Blake George; in addition to several nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 10, 2006, at Halley-Olsen-Murphy Memorial Chapel, Palmdale. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Grace Chapel in Lancaster. Interment will be conducted at 1 p.m., Monday, March 13, 2006, at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, Palmdale.
