SPICER -- Allen T. Iverson, 84, of Spicer died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Our Lady of the Lakes with a parish prayer service at 5 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London. The family prefers memorials be sent to the New Ulm Diocese for the mission in San Lucas Toliman, hospice, or S.O.M.E. in Washington, D.C.

Allen Truman Iverson was born Oct. 30, 1926, in Clarkfield, the son of Edwin O. and Elenora E. (Anderson) Iverson. He attended Clarkfield High School and Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. In 1944, he joined the United States Navy and served on the aircraft carrier, Ticonderoga, as a radarman.

On Feb. 6, 1951, Allen was united in marriage to Theresa "Bunny" Muller in Raymond. To this union, one son, Bruce, was born. Al was employed at the Willmar State Hospital, West Central Community Services Center (Woodland Centers) and by the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

Al was a member of the Minnesota Chemical Dependency Association and was appointed to the state advisory council to the commission of alcohol problems by Gov. Wendell R. Anderson. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He served on the advisory boards of Kandiyohi County group homes and the Willmar Vo-Tech. He served as an adult leader with the Boy Scouts and, along with his wife, were long-term volunteers at San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala. They served as advocates for the New Ulm Diocese Marriage Tribunal and were awarded the Diocese of New Ulm Distinguished Service Award. They were volunteers with So Others Might Eat (S.O.M.E.) in Washington, D.C. In 2006, they were named Minnesota Hospice Volunteers of the Year.

Al especially enjoyed the company of and watching the activities of his son and grandsons. Hunting and fishing were his passions, as well as watching the Minnesota Vikings.

He is survived by his wife, Bunny; son, Bruce Iverson of Willmar; grandsons, Ben of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Joe of Chicago; brother, James (DiAnn) Iverson of Willmar; sisters, Esther (Gordon) Grimm of Center City and Carol (Keith) Crosby of Montevideo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mayo and Wayne; and two sisters, Rhoda and Alice.
