She is also survived by six grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and their children.
Peg grew up on the family farm, the youngest of four sisters, inspired by her mother, Lyl Culbertson Adams , who put all four through college during the depression and WW II despite the untimely death of their father, Edward Adams . Peg was very attentive to her mother, especially during her college years when Peg transferred from Winthrop to Presbyterian College (from which she ultimately graduated) to be closer to her mother when her health worsened.
Peg and her three sisters, Mary Ellen, Lyl (Smith), and Emily Jean (Sykes) were very close growing up and continued to be so, along with their families, throughout the years. Their children have many wonderful memories of family vacations over the years on the South Carolina coast, the Appalachian Mountains and the family farm near Cross Hill.
In college, Peg excelled in basketball and tennis as well as academics. Graduating with honors, she worked with Farmers Home Administration in Columbia and later with the S.C. Wildlife Federation. She was an active leader and faithful member for over 40 years of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church in Columbia. She enjoyed golf with her friends well into her 70s and was a formidable bridge player.
Peg and Henry were married in 1947 after Henry returned from WW II. They lived for a few years in Orangeburg and then Greenwood before settling into their home on Grace Hill Road in Columbia for the next 25 years until Henry's death in 1986. As committed parents, they raised their children with the values of faith and responsibility.
Devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who walked with Christ throughout her life, rest in peace 'til soon we shall again be face to face.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peg's honor to the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House, Rock Hill, SC.
A graveside service and celebration of Peg's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2011, in Greenlawn Memorial Park , 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia. Arrangements are under the care of Greene Funeral Home, Rock Hill.
