Christine was active in church life and did volunteering for the . During her long life, she survived pneumonia and pleurisy at the age of 2-3. One year she had mumps, measles, chicken pox, and whooping cough. At the age of 9 she traveled 70 miles to have an operation on a ruptured and gangrenous appendix before penicillin or sulfa. While attending high school, she had scarlet fever. In the early 1960s she had two operations for Hashimoto thyroid disease ending up with a paralyzed vocal cord. About 1963 she was diagnosed with the rare sarcoma of the thyroid. In the fall of 1965, she was to have her voice box removed, but when given the choice to undergo cobalt treatment with a 10% chance of success, she took it keeping her voice box. In 1989 she under went a tracheotomy to gain breathing space from the swelling of the cobalt. In recent years, she gained a g tube giving her new challenges to survive and spend time with her beloved family members. Despite all of this, she has managed to live to be 90 years old.
Chris is preceded in death by her husband Robert Close, her parents Peter and Charlotte Eide, her brother Carl Eide, and her sister Swannee Bock. Survivors include a sister, three daughters, a son, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be at Ullrey Memorial Chapel in Yuba City from 3-5 P.M. on Sat., July 16th. The memorial service will be at First Lutheran Church, Yuba City at 1:00 P.M. on Sun., July 17th. A graveside service will be at Sutter County Cemetery at 9:00 A.M. on Mon., July 18th.
