She was 63 years old when she died with Mr. Page at her bedisde. She was a descendant of an old Virginia family. As Florence Lathrop, she first married Henry Field of Chicago, in whose memory she dedicated the Field collection in the Chicago Art Institute. She married Thomas Nelson Page in 1893 (Jun 6, 1893).

She was noted for her charitable activites both in Washington DC and Chicago. Among the organizations endowed by her were the University of Virgina, St. John's Church and St. John's Orpanage.

She was survived by two daughters, both by her first marriage: Mrs. Algernon Burnsby (Minna Field Burnaby) of Haggrave Hall, Leicestershire, England and Mrs. Thomas P. Lindsay (Florence Field Lindsay) of Southboro, Mass.

Her father, Jedediah Hyde Lathrop (b-Jul 5, 1806 in Lebanon, New Hampshire) - the son of Samuel and Lois Huntington Lathrop. Jedediah's father, a farmer, died about 1819.

Her mother, Mariana Bryan, daughter of Daniel and Mary Barbour Bryan, of Alexandria.

Philip Funigiello describes her grave as marked by "a very plain gravestone in keeping with per perception of her life - a simple pedestal topped with carved swirls on which were chiseled the two vital statistics of birth and death and the inscription, "In loving Memory of Florence Lathrop Page Wife of Thomas Nelson the base of the pedestal Thomas Nelson Page had incribed the beatitute, "Blessed Are the Pure of Heart,..."
