HERMISTON - Velma Jean Roberts died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at the Good Samaritan Center in Hermiston at the age of 82.
Velma was born in Milton on May 7, 1921, to Silas and Emma Gaines. She had been a long-time resident of Milton-Freewater and for the past 18 years she lived in Hermiston. She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Velma was preceded in death by her first husband, Herman Aichele, in 1945; her second husband, Elvin Roberts, in 1977; six brothers and one sister.
She is survived by a daughter, Patty Phillips of Hermiston; son, James Aichele of Pilot Rock; sisters, Phyllis Scudder, Irene Davis and Pauline Millett; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial graveside service will be held Thursday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m. at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Disposition was by cremation. Memorials may be made to the Oregon Heart Association.
Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of the arrangements.
