Violet I. Spence, 96 years of age, passed away quality at home on Saturday August 23, 2014. Born on August 1, 1918 in Franklin Twp., Monroe County, Ohio she was the daughter of the late Delbert and Olive D. (Bigley) McCollum. Mrs. Spence was a member of the Church of Christ, and the Mantua Village Cemetery Association. A homemaker, she also enjoyed being a short order cook for several different area businesses for many years, and spending time reading and gardening. Violet was greatly loved by family and friends, and will be missed by those who came to know her. Survivors include her children Steve (Nina) Spence of Mantua and Mary Nemeth of Kent, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. On January 19, 1935 she married Haward Spence who preceded her in death in 1975. Also preceding her were her children James Spence, Janette Fear and Betty Carden. No calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Mantua Village where she will be re-united with her loving husband Haward. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Hospice of Robinson Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are by the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua.
