Henrietta immigrated from Posen, Prussia, now Germany, to America about 1879 at the invitation of her eldest son August. She along with three younger sons Herman Marquardt, Adolph Kroll and Gustave Kroll made the journey, arriving in Stearns County about 1880. Another son Julius came to Stearns County in 1883, after completing military service and marriage to Ernestine Johanna Lucas.

Henrietta was widowed twice. Her first marriage was to Christoph Marquardt; her second was to William Kroll. After arriving in Minnesota, she lived first with her son August, but then lived many years with Gustave and his family. The name most often seen in census records for her is Henrietta Marquardt.
