My Aunt Ellen was a very warm, loving person .... and a very good cook! Many times our family would be invited for a meal at their house. We lived right down the road from her and her family, so spent quite a bit of time with them.
I can still remember the day she brought her youngest home from the hospital; she was so proud of him! She gave him the middle name Arthur, after her brother who had died young.
I was trying to think of a distinct memory of her to share, but all I can come up with is that she was just there for us, and we knew it. I do remember seeing her in the grocery store, when she was in remission; she was doing so well, and I was so happy! We lost her only a few months later, when the cancer came back.
Aunt Ellen passed away at 65 years old, after a battle with cancer. It had started as lymph node cancer, and when she came out of remission, it had gone to her bones.
She was survived by her husband Martin, (who died in 1993), one daughter and three sons, eleven grandchildren, two brothers, and two sisters; Golda and Floretta (Fluff).
Ellen was preceded in death by her grandparents; her parents, Fred and Dovvie Birch; four brothers, Arthur, Fred Earl, Noble, and Gene Birch.
We miss her so very much!
