Retired Air Force Sgt. Maurice Vincent Powers, born June 4th, 1921, in Harlem New York, entered into rest September 1st, 2011, in Barstow, San Bernardino County, California. Maurice had been a resident of Boron, located in Kern County, California, for the last 25 years.
Known as Marty "Slim" Powers, he served 26 years in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of WWII, where he was stationed in Australia as a gunner on a B-24. He also served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Maurice was an Alumni of Antelope Valley College where he received his Associate's degree in counseling, which he used in the six years following his retirement from the USAF as an AA counselor. He belonged to the 1st Sergeant's Association, 380th Bomb Group Association as part of the Flying Circus Squadron, Aerial Gunner Association, was a past president of the Red Cross and was a volunteer with the Special Olympics.
Maurice is survived by his wife of 52 years, five children, 9 grandchildren,
9 great-grandchildren, good long time friends Henry and Cleo. He was preceded in death by two children, daughter, Sandy and son, Maurice Jr. as well as two brothers, Thomas and William. Services were held on Friday, September 9, 2011, at Halley-Olsen-Murphy Lancaster Chapel. Interment followed at Lancaster District Cemetery.
