"Mary H. Barnes died at her residence in Shelby Township at 10:30 AM, Friday, March 11, 1898, of a cancerous tumor. She was born on the 27th of October, 1824 making her at the time of death seventy three years, four months and twelve days old. She leaves six children, two daughters and four sons, Elma Amos, Missouri Dunn, William, Stephen, Charles and Thomas Barnes to mourn her demise. The funeral services were held at the Lewis Creek Baptist Church at two PM Sunday, March 13, 1898, Rev. Colter officiating."
