Civil War veteran; private in the 94th Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry.

Frederick Beier, a son of Wilhelmina (née Werner) and Henry Beier, was born in Pomerania, Kingdom of Prussia. A church record shows that "Friedrich Johann Christian Beyer of Krukow was born on 10 February 1842 [at?] Fritznow."* The Beier family immigrated to the United States in 1857 and settled in McLean County, Illinois.

Frederick "Baiar" enlisted as a private on 11 August 1862 for 3 years' service (following his brother John, who enlisted on 1 August). Frederick Baiar, according to his enlistment papers, was age 21, a farmer, single, and resident in Bloomington, McLean County, Illinois. He was 5 feet, 4½ inches tall, had light hair, blue eyes, and a light complexion. Private Frederick Baiar and Private John Baiar both mustered in Company H, 94th Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry, on 20 August. The 94th, known as the McLean Regiment, first saw action in December 1862 at the Battle of Prairie Grove in northwestern Arkansas; participated in the May to July 1863 Siege of Vicksburg; and fought in other battles. Private Frederick Baiar and Private John Baiar mustered out with their regiment on 17 July 1865 in Galveston, Texas.

Frederick "Beyer" and Wilhelmina Seeman were married on 19 September 1866 in McLean County, where the family farmed in Yates Township, near Chenoa. The couple had five children (four of whom lived to maturity).
