Jerry A. Smith, former resident of Williamsburg, but who had made his home for some years with his son Paul and family, in the Piney Creek section, died suddenly at 1:20 Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 25, while at work peeling bark on his son's farm. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Friends recall that his brother Lloyd A. Smith, died just as suddenly in June, 1945, while milking a cow in the stable.
Mr. Smith was a son of David D. and Rebecca Acker Smith, and was born on the home farm where the Lloyd Smith family resides, March 9, 1876. He was united in marriage with Elsie Treese, who died 23 years ago. Surviving are two daughters and two sons, Mrs. Robert Fornwalt and Mrs. Frances Evans, both of Williamsburg, R. D.; Rev. Marion Smith of McConnellstown, and Paul K. Smith, at whose home he died. He is also survived by two sisters, Hattie, wife of John Ferral of Washington D. C., and Mrs. Margaret Bardell, of Williamsburg, and one brother, Ed Smith, of the Piney Creek section.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Williamsburg Lutheran church and before retiring had served for 18 years as janitor of the Williamsburg schools.
Funeral services will be held Saturday in the Williamsburg Lutheran church, where the body may be viewed from 11 a. m. until time for the funeral at 2 p.m. Services in charge of Rev. L. V. Lesher, and interment in the Presbyterian cemetery.
