Harold A. Brewer, 74 - About 16 months after being diagnosed with cancer, Harold A. Brewer, a Grant native, died May 4, 1998 at Warner Robins, Ga. He had been hospitalized at various times in Atlanta and Warner Robins since learning of his illness. He was 74. He retired from the Army in 1964. His assignments included several posts in the United States, plus Germany, Okinawa, and as the ordinance adviser to the Royal Thai Army. His last assignment was as commander of the missile repair facility at Robins AFB, Ga. After retirement he worked for 20 years as a civilian employee of the Air Force at Robins AFB as the base vehicle maintenance officer and as an equipment allowance officer in Air Force Material Command, retiring the second time in 1988 with a total of 41 years federal and military service. He grew up at Grant, one of 10 children of J.L. and Dollie Foster Brewer. He left Grant to join the Army during World War II. He returned to this area after the war and worked briefly in Albertville before rejoining the Army to make it his career. He was a Baptist. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on cars, yard work and time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Parris Brewer of Warner Robins, Ga.; 2 sons, Harold A Brewer Jr. and Keith Brewer, both of Atlanta; 3 sisters, Flora Sims of Hebron, Rubye Chandler of Albertville and Paula Cash of Atlanta; 4 brothers, James Brewer, Leon Brewer, Donald Brewer and Phillip Brewer, all of Grant; and 4 grandchildren. His funeral was Friday at Grant Memorial Chapel with Rev. Anthony Barnes officiating. Burial was at Panquin Cemetery. His granddaughter, Meredith Brewer, sang one of his favorite songs. A eulogy was said by Rev. Warren Smith of Atlanta. Pallbearers were nephews Roger Brewer, Mike Brewer, Wendell Key, Rusty Brewer, Bryan Brewer, Steven Brewer and Robert Hartmann.
