LaWanda "Ma-Ma" Lee Cooksey Rutherford was born on May 18, 1937, in Whiteface, Texas. She died peacefully at her home on July 27, 2014.

The youngest of eight children born to Winnie and Albert Cooksey, LaWanda graduated from Whiteface High School and moved to Lubbock. On June 6, 1958, she married Bill Rutherford, and together they raised two children, Charlotte and Craig.

LaWanda is survived by her husband, Bill, her daughter, Charlotte (Jay), her son, Craig (Norma), seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A devoted member of Agape United Methodist Church, LaWanda loved God, her family, and her circle of friends.

Visitation will be held at Sanders Funeral Home on Thursday, July 31st, from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. A private burial will take place the following morning, Friday, August 1st, with a public memorial service at 11:00am in the chapel of Agape United Methodist Church.

The family asks that memorials be sent to Agape United Methodist Church or a charitable organization, in lieu of flowers.
