HIS DEATH CAME TODAY
William Bartholomew, father of Henry [Hoagland] Bartholomew, who has been identified with the retail drug business in Quincy for many years, and recently at the Owl drug store, on Maine street, near Sixth avenue, fell dead in his room at 11:30 o'clock this morning, from heart failure, at the age of 81 years. The senior Bartholomew made his home with his son and family[?] at 425 Sixth avenue North. He was to all appearances in his usual health this morning. Toward noon he stepped into the yard for a little exercise and returning to the house collapsed on the floor, just inside the door of his room.
The deceased was born in New York state on May 4, 1830: was married at Worthington, Ind., in [9/29] 1859; his wife died two years later after giving birth to one child: When the civil war began he enlisted and served as captain of Company A, 59th Indiana infantry, through the entire struggle; 18 years ago he came to this city and had since made his home here with the only child, Henry Bartholomew. The family lived for many years at Worthington [IN] and on Monday the body is to be shipped there for the funeral with interment beside the grave of his [first] wife. The son is to accompany the remains east but the wife [there was no current wife] may not attempt the trip as she is in poor health.
