Robert Marvin Shiflett, 57, of Floyd Springs Road, Armuchee Rte. 1, died unexpectedly Monday following an attack suffered at his residence.

Mr. Shiflett was born in Georgia Dec. 27, 1909, son of Frank Shiflett and the late Martha Isabell Mathis Shiflett. He had been a resident of Floyd County the greater part of his life, living in Lindale from 1947 to 1962. He was a member of New Armuchee Baptist Church and served on the board of deacons. He was a member and past worshipful master of Coosa Lodge 622 F. & A.M. and the Low 12 Club. Mr. Shiflett had been an employe of Brighton Division, Klopman Mills, for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Ruth May Barker, to whom he was married May 14, 1929; four daughters, Mrs. Norman Pierce and Mrs. Joe Momon, both of Rome; Mrs. Bobby Pierce, Lindale Rte. 1, and Mrs. Tommy Shores of Silver Creek Rte. 1; one son, Lamar Shiflett, Rome; father, Frank Shiflett, Rome; two sisters, Mrs. B. N. Land, Rome, Rte. 7, and Mrs. H. A. Milam of Rome; two brothers, Lester Shiflett, Rome Rte. 2, and Fred Shiflett, Knoxville, Tenn; eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Armuchee Baptist Church with the Revs. E. Stanley Morris and George Adams officiating. Interment will be in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The body will remain at Jennings Funeral Home and the family will receive friends there from 7 until 9 p.m. today. At other hours they will be at the residence of a daughter, Mrs. Norman Pierce, 111 Oakwood Rd. On Wednesday the body will be removed to the church to lie in state from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour.

Nephews will serve as active pallbearers and include: Ronnie, Bobby, Gene and Stanley Barker, Jack Wright, Randy Land and Glenn Shiflett. Members of the Board of Deacons of New Armuchee Baptist Church and Coosa Lodge 622, F. & A.M. will serve as honorary escort. Coosa Lodge 622, F. & A.M. will have charge of graveside rites.
