Raymond Edward Smyly, of Ruffin, entered into eternal rest, July 18, 2014, in North Charleston. He was the husband of Sarah Ann Hiers Smyly for 53 years.

Born January 2, 1940, in Colleton County, he was a son of the late Edward English Smyly and Leona Moore Smyly.

Mr. Smyly was a retired supervisor with Country Miss and was a Jehovah's Witness. He loved to fish in his younger years and was an avid fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks and Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed watching western movies and loved spending time with his wife and his family.

Surviving are: his wife, Sarah Ann Hiers Smyly, two sons: Tony Smyly and wife Kathy of Ruffin, Greg Smyly and wife Donna of Ruffin and a daughter: Yvonne Herndon and husband Benjie of Ruffin, grandchildren: T.J., English, Bryce, and Tanner Smyly, Brantley Walling, Frankie, Mark, and Allen Jacques, 3 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Lamar and Allen Smyly and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by a brother, Henry Smyly.

A memorial service will be held 7:00 pm, July 21, 2014 at the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel. The family will receive friends at 6:00 pm until the hour of service. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
