Thomas Dove was residing in Higginsville, Vermilion County, Illinois, when he mustered in on July 3, 1861 at the age of 19. Muster rolls describe him 5 foot 8 1/2 inches tall with dark hair, dark eyes and a light complexion. He was single and a farmer. Assigned to Company D, 35th Illinois Infantry, he was mustered in on Aug. 28, 1861 in St. Louis and was assigned to be a wagoner. He served for three years before he died in Bridgeport, Alabama of wounds received in action at the Battle of Mission Ridge on November 25, 1863.
